Outcome

In about 10 minutes you will have a ClickHouse Cloud service running and have confirmed you can reach its SQL console. Nothing is installed on your machine -- every step in this workshop, including this one, runs in a browser. The workshop itself runs about three hours; this module is the pre-work you do before it starts.

Step 1 -- Create a ClickHouse Cloud account and service

Sign up for a free account at clickhouse.cloud if you do not already have one, then create a new service.

Any region works. The dataset this workshop moves is a single export of Parquet files totaling 443.86 MiB -- small enough that reading it from a service in a different region costs nothing meaningful. Do not spend time picking a region for proximity to a particular bucket; pick whichever region is closest to you.

No Google Cloud project is needed anywhere in this workshop. The dataset you will query and ingest already lives in a public, anonymous-read bucket, so there is no Google Cloud account, project, or billing setup to complete before you start.

Step 2 -- Confirm SQL console access

Open your service's SQL console and run:

SELECT version();

Any version string coming back means the console works and you are ready for module 01.

Done when

• Your ClickHouse Cloud service is running, in whichever region you chose.
• SELECT version() returns a version string in the SQL console.
